Investment by the City of Liverpool

The city of Liverpool took the opportunity to host the European Capital of Culture title very seriously and it invested around 130 million GBP over a 6 year period between 2003 – 2008. Of this, close to 75 million came from the Liverpool local authority and the remaining 55 million was attracted from other sources, for example 14 million GBP was invested by private companies in sponsorship. This was a significant level of investment that complemented the 4 billion GBP that was invested into the physical regeneration of Liverpool city centre since 2000.
