The European society, and other large parts of the world, face a number of changes on different levels: environmental, economic, financial, technological, democratic and so on. When we look at the fields of youth, culture and the arts, we see that many people are in search for the appropriate responses to these big challenges. For sure, one of the most exciting initiatives are the ‘Creative Spaces’ that are arising. In many countries throughout Europe, young people take responsibility themselves or find help to start up these so-called ‘Creative Spaces’.‘Creative Spaces’ are tackling a range of issues at the same time: they enable young people to experiment, to develop their talents, their creativity, and their personality. New forms of cultural activity are stimulated which increase work opportunities for young talents. The often hybrid and diverse settings and contexts of creative spaces tend to foster intercultural skills while at the same time supporting or housing talented, small-scale creative businesses. Not surprisingly, these places become cultural breeding grounds, incubators and community labs. In many creative spaces, projects are set up around social activism, democracy and sustainability among others. We believe that young people need open, free spaces for safe experiment. With the strategic partnership ‘Creative Spaces’ we want to look at similarities and the differences of these spaces and what they can mean: for youngsters, for us as organizers, as well as on a policy level. The project started in January 2015 and from our meetings and research we will conclude results which will be presented by December 2016.
