Frank Gehry won

Pedro Ruiz Aldasoro

I took a part in the commission. I met the architect Frank Gehry. He won the competition. He also came here two years ago for a work. Until the very begging of the building for the first 500 days of Guggenheim I took part in it. But then I did not continue. I had my job and this work was for other kind of people. They did their work really well.

We did a negotiationg with Gehry. Gehry won the contest but not easily. There were big differences between Gehry and Arata Isozaki from Japan. It was very equal in decision process. The decision took place in Frankfurt. One of the members of Basque Council who was in that moment a leader of economic aspect of agreement decided that Gehry was better architect for Bilbao. I remember that night when we decided that Gehry won.
