Darius Polok

Director of MitOst in Berlin, Germany

Darius Polok studied Slavonic studies, philosophy, and German studies in Bochum, Breslau, and Potsdam. Already during his studies, he worked as an editor for the Robert Bosch Foundation in Bydgoszcz, Poland and as a contributor for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Potsdam. Polok first organized volunteer projects and then founded and led Theodor-Heuss-Kolleg program – a program supporting young people that want to play a role in shaping their society as active and responsible citizens. He is a co-founder of MitOst (in 1996), the association that supports the civil society activists, citizenship education and also on the other side a culture exchange within Europe, recently also in EU-neighbourhood countries and Arabic countries. Association MitOst is a non-profit organization that works in two directions: civic education and cultural management. Darius Polok is thematically responsible for the second one. That includes huge cultural exchange projects throughout Europe, training, and support for cultural managers, internships, workshops, mass events and much more. Since 2004, he has been heading a programme funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation Cultural managers in Central and Eastern Europe.
